Post Op Care

  • Manual Lymphatic Drainage: It’s a special massage that helps plastic surgery patients heal faster and better after their procedures. Assists in alleviating swelling (known as edema), detoxifying, inducing a state of relaxation, decreasing pain and risk of post op complications. 24h after surgery, MLD can begin, under physician/doctor’s prescription. After surgery, thousands of cells are sent to the site of the procedure, where they start working to help your body to heal faster. When these cells all group up together, it can lead to inflammation and swelling, which is normal. Also after surgery mobility can be compromised or decreased leading to more swelling. To deal with all these accumulated liquids it is important to improve the functioning of the lymphatic system. MLD moves the fluid to where the lymphatic system is working properly, so the fluid can be removed and the swelling goes down. If the post-surgery edema and inflammation is not managed properly it can lead to complications such as fibrosis and compromise the final result of the surgery.

  • Magnetotherapy: It’s a therapy that uses magnets of different sizes and at strategic points on the body, which does not cause pain or discomfort when applied. Iron represents approximately 4% of the blood and each ion or atom contained in our cells produces an electrical impulse. These three elements make up our own electric magnetic field, which changes and loses strength in some situations, such as illness or surgery, resulting in depolarization. Electromagnetic impulses will have the function of repolarizing the cell membrane (when the negative pole of a magnet is placed on a part of the body, it stimulates blood circulation, increasing oxygenation and transforming it into a positive energy pole) restoring physiological functioning and balance of the organism. Increased blood circulation and oxygenation decrease inflammation and pain. The affinity for iron ions reduces bruises.

  • Modified intravascular laser irradiation of blood (MILIB) : The use of red therapeutic laser transcutaneous has been a great option as an added therapeutic value to the treatment of various pathologies (photo biomodulation). Similar to hemotherapy, the treatment provides systemic stimuli and promotes antioxidant action, activation of the immune system (increased expression of immunoglobulins and interleukins), alteration of the pain threshold (increased release of endorphins and enkephalins, with consequent analgesic action in chronic pain) and acceleration of repair processes in post-operatives. The laser optical fiber is placed on the skin of the wrist region (over the radial artery), secured with an elastic band. The emitted light is absorbed and radiated by the bloodstream. The irradiation is performed for 30 minutes continuously, and the dosage varies depending on the type of disease or surgery.

  • Fibrosis Management: Some patients can develop fibrosis after undergoing liposuction, although the risk is low. Fibrosis may not show up right away, but typically it is characterized by contour irregularities you can see or feel. For some patients, the area may also be painful, or you may feel a pulling sensation when you move. Fibrosis is an inflammatory skin reaction to swelling. When the lymphatic system is compromised, removal of cellular waste from the tissue becomes stagnant, the skin hardens and becomes lumpy and pumps. Fibrosis massage is body work that involves using more pressure than manual lymphatic drainage (MLD). The manual techniques help break up scar tissue. Sometimes the treatment can be associated with medical and aesthetic devices as radiofrequency, ultrasound and ultra cavitation.
